       This is a truly historic property - a vital part of the west coast gold rush era. The property’s access cutting to the river was dug by hand during the 1870’s (by miners - they did it hard in those days). For more than 100 years this was the northern landing point of the only ferry service across the Arthur River, carrying food, supplies and cattle to the booming west coast mining towns in the south. Fascinating photos tell the story, and local historians have documented the life of the punt in detail.

        Locals all seem to have a story about the old punt, including a couple of times when vehicles lost their brakes going down the hill and shot straight off the end of the punt into the river! Luckily times are a bit slower and a bit easier nowadays.
